starting to work with dtOcean and osgOcean. Not sure what the status is as of now. This is what I have done so far.

-downloaded src for delta3d 2.7.5. http://sourceforge.net/projects/delta3d/files/delta3d/2.7.5/dt_2.7.5_source.zip/download
-unzipped to development dir.
-then i had to download osg3.1.1, because osgOcean 1.0.1 uses a class called viewdependentshadowmap that is only available in osg3.1.1. found that out the hard way. http://www.openscenegraph.org/downloads/developer_releases/OpenSceneGraph-3.1.1.zip
-built osg3.1.1 and promoted the include/ bin/ and lib/ directories to ./ext.
-downloaded dtOcean to development directory, used rev 3695. https://svn.code.sf.net/p/delta3d-extras/code/dtOcean/trunk/
-downloaded osgOcean rev 256 to dtOcean/ext/directory from svn. http://osgocean.googlecode.com/svn/trunk
-built osgOcean. promoted /bin /lib /include to ext/
-built delta3d. (actually only on this step...it is taking a while so i thought i would type this up.)
-built dtOcean.
-add ocean actor to stage and ride the waves.

There is also GPU-based ocean solution in delta3d. Look at the water grid actor. It does above and underwater. It can do waves up close and waves over a huge area. Additionally, in SimulationCore, there is code to handle water spray as ships move through the water, and code to make ships and boats follow the water when moving.

Hi, In after Delta3D 2.8 version, I tried to compile dtOcean project from github, however there are too many errors, and the dtOcean is not update with the new Delta3D version. so I'm wondering maybe we don't need this module now.

not sure if people are still using dtOcean. it has been a while since i dabbled in ocean stuff. from the comment it looks like people may have moved on to this water grid actor. i have never personally gotten this to work.
