delta3d 2.8 Release Upcoming
The delta3d 2.8 release is still being polished. Stay tuned for the final release. We'll keep this story and the 2.8 release thread on the forum up to date with any new information.
It's been a long time coming but we have put the release off to bring modern render capabilities to delta3d with the simple drag and drop capabilities of modern engines.
As a result, we have added a new library dtRender onto the release branch which currently acts as the environment actor but will replace the dtCore Scene and dtCore Environment in 2.9.0. The dtRender library adds dependencies on osgEphemeris, osgPPU, and osgShadow. The osgPPU library in particular brings with it the capability to do robust multi-pass rendering which is essential for modern game/simulation environments. As an example, using the new dtRender SceneManager class it is now possible to add an HDR Scene to your map and have HDR capability added to your scene.
It is also possible to add a Shadow scene to your map to enable and parameterize shadow rendering. To compliment the HDR it becomes necessary to integrate real HDR light values into your scene. To do this we have modified osgEphemeris to render non scaled lighting values to a floating point texture. Here is a screenshot of the result, currently in the example application for the 2.8 release.
